2018 Spring Maintenance Checklist

Spring maintenance checklistWhether you are a brand new homeowner or have lived in your home for years, it is never too late to know how to properly maintain your home.  To help prevent unexpected repair bills below you will find a list of helpful maintenance items that should be done periodically.

  • Inspect wood siding for splitting, loosening, warping, and decay.
  • Make sure that aluminum and vinyl sidings are properly secure.
  • Keep debris cleared from gutters and downspouts.
  • Be sure downspout extensions are diverting water well away from the foundation. (4 to 6 feet is usually adequate.
  • Keep all debris from roof especially in and around the valleys.
  • Inspect the service cable for fraying or cracking.
  • Inspect the service panel for rust, water penetration, and burned or scorched wire.
  • Be sure to check, replace, or clean filters.
  • Check for any signs of corrosion, especially around flue pipes, humidifiers, and a/c coils.
  • Clean or change humidifier pad regularly.
  • Make sure the exterior unit remains level.
  • Inspect the supply and drain lines for leakage.
  • Inspect the sump pump for proper operation.
  • Check for loose, cracked, or missing tile or tile grout in kitchens and baths.
  • Check all smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors for proper operation.
